Division of Molecular Science, Graduate School of Science and Technology, Gunma University
Seiji Tobita was born in Gunma, Japan, in 1956. He received his Doctoral degree in physical chemistry from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1983. In 1983, he was appointed as full-time lecturer at Gunma College of Technology. In 1990-1991, he worked in Université de Paris-Sud in France and Freie Universität Berlin as invited scientist. He joined the Faculty of Engineering, Gunma University, as an associate professor in 1992. Currently he is a full professor of chemistry and chemical biology at Gunma University.
His research interests include photophysics and photochemistry of electronically excited molecules in the condensed phase and its application to development of fluorescent probes for biological imaging. Now he is particularly interested in the development of biological oxygen sensing techniques using iridium complexes as luminescent molecular probes.
